All we want for Christmas...

🎜🎜🎜🎜🎜      We don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing we need
We don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree                           ðŸŽœ
We just want the books we own
More than you will ever know                          ðŸŽœ
Make our wish come true
Return those books that are overdue
That is all we want for Christmas from you ooh ooh ooh hoo!  ðŸŽœðŸŽœðŸŽœ

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas

Visit the Library to see the winter-themed display and Christmas books.

Books borrowed now are due for return on 6th January 2022.

Book of the Month - October

The Book of the Month for October is 'A kind of spark' by Elle McNicoll. The story is told through the voice of Addie who is autistic. On a school trip Addie learns about the history of witch trials in her town. Women were persecuted and executed as 'witches' because they were different from everyone else. Addie understands the hurt and hardships of being seen as different. She decides to campaign for a memorial to these forgotten women and hopes that she can also challenge the way people see her.

This is a beautifully written story about courage and friendship and about the highs and lows of being seen as 'different'.

World Poetry Day March 21st

A couple of book related poems by Brian Bilston for World Poetry Day:

a little learning

one thing

I have learnt

as I've got older

is that books

light up life

and make it smoulder

and that beauty

is in the eye

of the book holder.

St. Patrick's Day

The 17th of March is celebrated the world over as St. Patrick's Day. St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He was born in Britain in the 5th century to Romanised parents.

At the age of 16 he was captured by Irish sea raiders and sold into slavery as a shepherd for a Celtic priest. He escaped back to Britain after six years but eventually returned as a Christian missionary.

There are many legends about Saint Patrick one of the most famous is the story that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland into the sea and their demise!

Some Irish authors:

Eoin Colfer: Artemis Fowl; The wish list.
Sarah Crossan: The weight of water; Apple and Rain.
Oisin McGann: Ancient appetites; Small-minded giants.

John Boyne : The boy in the striped pyjamas; Stay where you are and then leave.
N.B. Siobhan Dowd was born in Britain to Irish parents but both the books shown are set in Ireland!
Roddy Doyle: Wilderness; A greyhound of a girl.

Keep writing and sharing your stories. We look forward to reading them.

#invyreads

The S1-S3 students have been challenged to write a story for #invyreads and as part of World Book Day. There are photographs to inspire them to write a story that is six words, fifty words or 250 words long. The example I came up with to show a six word story is given below.

Bear : "No! I'll drive, you push!"

It is not as easy as it seems. Perhaps you can come up with some six word stories to match the photos below.
