 Try some howling good books!

The latest Library display highlights fiction books with the words 'wolf' or 'wolves' in the title and non-fiction books about wolves.

If you would like to borrow any of these books come along to the Library - Room F21.

June is Pride Month

 To celebrate Pride month the Library door has been decorated. It features the covers of several LGBTQ+ fiction books which are available in the Library. This is just a small selection of all the LGBTQ+ books available in the Library. If you want help finding a particular title or would like some guidance about suitable titles please ask Mrs Aitken.

Library Display

 The latest Library display focuses on 'Books with numbers in the title'. You will be amazed how many fiction books actually do have a title that includes a number. Visit the Library to see the display and maybe be inspired to borrow one of those books.

Pets

 Love animals? Love reading books about animals? 

If you answered 'yes' to those questions then visit the Library (F21) where there is a display of both Fiction and Non-Fiction books about pets. 

Remember you can borrow any of the books on the displays.

National Pet Month

 For National Pet Month there is a display in the Library (room F27) of fiction books and there is also a wide selection of information books available to borrow on how to look after your pets: from dogs to iguanas, and from chickens to rabbits!

Holocaust Memorial Day

On 27th January 1945 the death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated and this date is used to remember all victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur, and to honour the survivors of these atrocities.
There are many fiction books which have been set during the time of the Holocaust. We are probably most familiar with John Boyne's "The boy in the striped pyjamas" but there are many others available in the Library to try.

January blues?

It's cold and wet outside and maybe we are all suffering a little from the January blues. The Library has certainly taken on a blue hue. Everywhere you look there are fiction books of all genres, from romance to horror, from mystery to war stories all displaying their jackets which come in various shades of blue. So why not curl up with a good book somewhere warm and cosy and beat the blues?

Fiction Genres

The displays in the Library focus on the wide variety of fiction genres available in the Library. Many you will be familiar with such as horror, romance, fantasy and thriller; some you might not be so aware of, for example - dystopia, myths, science fiction and realistic fiction. See if you can find a book that matches your requirements, however specific!

Book Week Scotland

There are lots of books by Scottish authors on display all around the Library, so if you are looking for something to read why not try one of the books from the diplays. There are books from all genres from adventure to fantasy, from dystopian to horror. Once you have chosen a book why not pledge to read the whole book by the end of BWS (30th November) and add your pledge to the Pledge Wall?

Some of the authors you could try are: Lari Don, Gill Lewis, Elizabeth Laird, Theresa Breslin, Barry Hutchison and James Jauncey - to name but a few!

World Book Day display

One of the World Book Day displays is up and running in the Library. The display, imaginatively titled 'A world of books for World Book Day', has a host of fiction books set in countries from France to Australia via Brazil, China, South Africa and beyond.Something for everyone to enjoy.

Burns Night

Robert Burns was born on 25th January 1759 and every year on this date people celebrate Scotland's Bard by holding Burns Suppers -  where they eat haggis and recite his poetry. If you are not familiar with the poetry of Robert Burns or if you want to know more about what happens at a Burns Supper come along to the Library where there is a display to celebrate one of Scotland's great poets.

Every book it's reader

The display for Book Week Scotland features some books which although fairly new in the Library have yet to be borrowed. So, to find their reader these 'unloved' books are advertising their stories in, hopefully, an amusing way. Come along to the Library and see if any of the books are your ideal match.

Book Week Scotland 2013

Book Week Scotland 2013 runs from Monday 25th November until Sunday 1st December. During the week there are all sorts of book-related events taking place throughout Scotland for readers of all ages. For more information about Book Week Scotland visit the Scottish Book Trust's link

Here in the Library there will be competitions for you to enter as well as lots of books on display.

I am going to enter the pets reading competition and I will post the photos (Tank the tortoise is taking a bit of time to find the book he wants!!) on the blog tomorrow. If you have any photos of your pet reading that you would like diplayed in the Library please let me know and remember to enter the SBT competition too.

The display this week is about two rules of Library science:
1. Every book it's reader
2. Every reader his/her book
(But more of this later)

Fiction display

On display in the fiction area of the Library are books which are all about animals or have the name of an animal in the title.

Colourful Reads

After all the dark, black, bleak horror and scary books that were on display for Halloween thought it was time for some colour. So, a bright colourful display of books will be found at the Library entrance and on the display board. So if you DO judge a book by it's cover and you want a cheerful image on the front of your book come along and borrow one of the books on display.

 

 

Fiction display

The display on the fiction shelves has changed. Well done to the students in Mr D's English class who spotted that all the book titles have a personal name in them. So there are many different genres to choose from, just a few of the 80 books on display are shown below.

Read red!

A colour theme for the displays in the fiction area this month - all the books have red book jackets. There is a huge range of different fiction genres to choose from - horror, adventure, humour, family sagas, mysteries, steampunk, even romance! There are over 80 books on display, so why not choose something different and read red!

Shelf Display for June

The first half of June is a bit green. The display shelves in the fiction section of the Library feature fiction books with green covers! Simple but effective, adds a spring-like effect to the Library. Why not come and see if you agree!

Blue for you

The Library fiction shelves have a watery look to them at the moment. Why? Well, all the display shelves in the fiction area have books with blue covers on them. So no particular theme to the displays this time other than one of colour. Why not come to the Library and be amazed at just how many books have blue jackets!

Roald Dahl Day Display

Many thanks to S6 student Rebecca for her wonderful artwork which forms the main part of the display in the Library for Roald Dahl Day. Rebecca's excellent picture depicts 3 of Roald Dahl's best loved characters -  the Twits and Matilda. Thanks also to Charlotte for ably assisting Rebecca.
