Every year on 27th January the world remembers all those murdered in the Holocaust and in the genocides that have taken place in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

This year the theme is 'Ordinary people'.

Ordinary people. 

Ordinary people who are the persecuted.

Ordinary people who are the victims.

Ordinary people who are the perpetrators.

Ordinary people who are the rescuers.

Ordinary people who are the bystanders.

Ordinary people, like you and me. We need to remember and to challenge prejudice and to stand up to hatred.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas

 Visit the Library to see the winter-themed display and Christmas books. 

Books borrowed now are due for return on 6th January 2022.

Earth Day 2021

Earth Day has been held on 22nd April since 1970 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The theme for Earth Day 2021 is 'Restore our Earth'. Visit earthday.org for more information and details of activities focused on environmental issues the world faces.

 

Remembrance Day

  Remembrance Day (Poppy Day) is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of First World War on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended 'at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month', In the UK the main observance is Remembrance Sunday held on the Sunday nearest to 11 November (this year it is Sunday 8th November).

There is a display of fiction and non-fiction in the Library (room F27). Please see Mrs Aitken if you would like to borrow any of these books.

Flip Side

The February issue of Flip Side is now available in the Library. As usual it is packed full of fascinating articles and very strange pictures. If you want to know more about deadly reptiles, real-life robot patrols or extreme rock climbing then pick up FlipSide from the Library desk.

Christmas display

A bit of a Christmas puzzle for the display this year. Quickly solved by S1 students Caitlynn and Rebecca who were also kind enough to find it funny!

'(T) hats a cracker of a book' is the solution - just in case you didn't get it. So, lots of Christmassy-themed books to choose from around the Library as well as on the display. Everything from Christmas poetry and 'Horrible Christmas' to Charles Dickens' 'Christmas stories' and really terrible Christmas jokes.

December FlipSide

The December issue is now available in the Library. This month there are articles explaining the science behind archery as seen in the movie 'Catching Fire'; the latest 'Need for speed' game; the future for polar bears on the Arctic ice and the '10 weirdest animal robots'. Something for everyone!
