Book of the Week- April 29th

Book of the week this week is 'Liar & spy' by Rebecca Stead. Georges is being bullied at school and to make matters worse his father has lost his job. This means that the family are moving from their house to an apartment, and Georges is having to leave behind his very unique bedroom. In the new building Georges meets Safer and his sister Candy and joins the Spy Club. As things get worse at school so it becomes more difficult to tell what is the truth and what is a lie. A quirky book with interesting characters which is easy to read and interesting enough to make you want to read to the end.

Fiction with pictures

The Library display for the next two weeks features a mixture of graphic novels, comic books and manga all under the watchful eye of Batman! So if you enjoy these genres why not come and browse the books on display and possibly borrow one or two!

Book of the week - 22nd April

Bone quill by John and Carol Barrowman is the second book in the Hollow Earth series. Twins Matt and Emily Calder have such vivid imaginations that they can make art come to life and enter into the paintings themselves, not always a good thing you will know if you read the first book!
In this second adventure Matt and Emily have to try and prevent all the creatures and demons in Hollow Earth from escaping by finding and protecting an ancient bone quill. In the end they face a terrible decision; save their father or save Hollow Earth!
Although Bone quill can be read without having read Hollow Earth first you will get far more out of the story and the development of the characters if you read the books in order. The books are good fantasy reads with a bit of history and art appreciation thrown in to the mix, all-in-all a good adventure story.

Last Day of Term

On the last day of term before the Easter holidays ICHS students not only enjoyed a dress down day to raise money for charity but the Chess Club also welcomed one of Scotland's chess masters into the school. The Chess Club played John well into the afternoon and learned lots about strategy and ending games.
